Artist Bio
Elizabeth L Pinson is a mixed media artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Deeply inspired by the vast skies, intricate cloud formations, and natural textures of the Southwest, her work is a sensory response to the emotional presence of the land. With roots in textile art, including weaving and embroidery, Elizabeth brings a tactile sensibility to her abstract compositions, using oil pastels, found objects, and handmade paper to build depth and softness.
Guided by intuition and a 13-year mentorship with Monte Con Studios, her evolving practice reflects a reverence for natural forms and a curiosity for material exploration. Whether working on reclaimed Birchwood or stretched canvas, she seeks to translate the feeling of spaciousness—an openness that defines both her environment and artistic process.
Artist Statement
My work is an ongoing conversation with the land, sky, and textures of the Southwest. I begin intuitively, letting color, material, and memory guide the process. The ornate skies and organic forms of New Mexico have left a deep imprint on me—one that I try to express not through representation, but through feeling.
Using oil pastels, found objects, and handmade paper, I explore how surfaces can be built, layered, folded, and transformed. I’m especially drawn to paper for its softness and flexibility—how it holds both light and shadow, how it can be molded and shaped, much like memory or emotion.
The act of creating is both meditative and playful. I don’t aim to control the outcome but to discover it, piece by piece. My background in weaving and textiles remains present in how I approach materials—patiently, attentively, with a sense of rhythm and connection.
Ultimately, my work is about presence. It’s about how we experience space, how we feel color, and how we connect to the natural world in ways that are quiet, personal, and profound.
